You can do it!

You can do it!

Did you begin the year full of good intentions that have fallen by the wayside?

Now’s the time to stop making excuses and start ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS.

I admit this isn’t going to be easy, I don’t have a magic wand and there are no quick fixes so stay away from the false promises of the new diet craze of instant results and everlasting weight loss.

As a mum, I believe more than anyone that we have the most sincere excuses as to why we can’t exercise or lose weight. Money, time, childcare, sleep deprivation name just a few. I think it’s a shame that some mums never regain their fitness levels after having a child. It’s a shame that some mums spend a lifetime on the scales obsessing about their weight, which in turn often causes them to yoyo diet. A person very close to me weighs herself daily, she feels fantastic if the scales show she has lost a few pounds and rewards herself with a sweet treat! If she is heavier than the previous morning she binges on junk as she feels that she will never achieve her desired goal. This unhealthy obsessing can pass on negative body issues to our little ones.

I want to help mums get FITTER FOR LIFE. We live in a world of fast food, fast fixes and ever increasing obesity. We owe it to our bodies and our little ones to be the best version of us.

Right, I hope your reading this nodding your head with enthusiasm and muttering “yes I can do this”!

You can overcome the excuses so that you start ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS.

BUILD WILLPOWER

DON’T set yourself too many goals all of which require self-control. Trying to start a tough fitness regime and stricter healthy eating plan at the same time requires the greatest of will power. Instead start with and one small step and do that until you have it nailed. Then move onto the next step and so on. Succeeding at one goal will improve your chances of succeeding at the rest. This works as it builds your will power up slowly which in turn helps boost confidence.   YOU CAN DO IT!

GOALS

Set SMART GOALS. Vowing to be fitter and healthier in a new year is far too general. A SMART GOAL would be “I want to attend a fitness class once a fortnight” or “I will make sure I leave the house with extra time so that I can walk to my destination”.

This makes those goals easier to achieve and measure and allows you to make significant and constant progress.

COST

When you start to think about the cost of exercise classes/gym membership etc it’s easy to say that you can’t afford it, often a very valid excuse. Exercise such as running and walking is FREE!

For me I took drastic measures and sold my rusty old car to fund my personal postnatal training. Money that was very well spent in my opinion, had I not and I might be sat here still hating my paunch, unaware that I had Diastasis Recti (tummy separation). By paying that money out weekly it meant that I made sure I achieved my goal, it was also MY TIME! Well deserved body tender loving care time. I can here you thinking “I haven’t got a car to sell!” Try selling baby items at car boots or the NCT Table top sales we all have items that we don’t use. Walk everywhere and save money on petrol/parking or bus fares. During my maternity leave I would easily walk 8 miles per day! Gone were the high heeled shoes an on went the trainers, power walking is great, not only for the body, but for the mind too. Please see my vlogs on posture and core control for some FREE TIPS.

CHILDCARE

I know this is an issue for us all! My boy went into childcare a few hours so that I could exercise. However I wanted to exercise more than once a week so I also attended classes where I could take him – see Zipped up Mums Timetable for these classes.

I agree training with your little one isn’t ideal but it’s better that doing nothing! If you enjoy running purchase a jogging pram, but make sure you don’t leave it gathering dust in the hall way. See my facebook group ZIPPED UP MUMS and see if can do a child swap with other mums. It may take a little organisation but YOU CAN DO IT!

SLEEP DEPRIVATION

Those that know me know I have had it tough with my little boy who is now three and still regularly wakes up to 3 times a night! But that’s a totally different blog! Feeling exhausted? Get up and get washed and head outdoors! A brisk walk works wonders, and we are lucky to have the lovely seafront to walk along. Exercise does energise you. If I had waited until I wasn’t sleep deprived I would still be waiting now! Stick to my Core & More class rather than the Boot camp one. It’s about adopting goal driven rather than mood driven behaviour. That said also listen to your body and rest when you can!!!!!!!

I haven’t covered every excuse but I hope that I have motivated you to take that brisk walk and to book a session with ZIPPED UP MUMS.

BODY CONFIDENCE is closer and easier to achieve than you think.
